Bull Botanics is a retail nursery in Lucknow, just outside Bairnsdale.

We started as an indoor plant business in 2020 and expanded into a full retail nursery in early 2024. Since then, the outdoor range has grown quickly and the business now runs seven days.

We are not trying to build an average nursery. Bull Botanics is where ambitious, practical, plant-curious people can learn fast and work close to a growing business.

No nursery experience is required. We can teach plant knowledge. What matters from the start is reliability, care, curiosity, physical capability and the ability to learn quickly.

02

The role

This is outdoor, physical, customer-facing work.

You'll spend most of the day outside with plants: watering, checking stock, cleaning tables, resetting displays, moving stock and helping customers.

Watering is the foundation of plant care. It affects plant health, pest pressure, plant quality and how the nursery looks each day. The job is to learn what different plants need based on species, pot size, soil type, weather, sun exposure and position.

Presentation is part of the same standard: clean tables, visible labels, grouped stock, tired leaves removed and displays kept neat.

The workload changes with the season. Some periods are steady; others bring new stock, deliveries, dry plants, customers and multiple priorities stacking up.

With living stock, timing matters. You will not know everything on day one, but you will need to listen carefully, ask questions, use feedback and improve.

What you'll do

04

What you'll learn

There is a lot to learn in this role: plant ID, watering, pests and disease, soil science, plant nutrition, light requirements, common customer questions and sales skills.

You will not need to know all of this at the start. You will learn through daily routines, repeated practice, clear instructions and feedback.

05

What we're looking for

This role suits someone who can:

Experience in nursery work is helpful but not required. Experience in retail, gardening, landscaping or other hands-on customer-facing work may also suit this role.

06

Pay and conditions

Starting pay within the advertised adult range depends on current skill, experience, demonstrated capability and applicable award classification.

Someone with no nursery experience will not start in the same place as someone who can already handle plant care, customers, presentation and outdoor work well.

Progression within the band is based on becoming more capable and independent in the role. That means watering accurately, maintaining presentation, catching plant-health issues early, helping customers properly, working safely and reducing how much supervision is required.

Most weeks are Monday–Friday, around 9am–5pm. In peak periods, extra hours or occasional weekend work may be needed. Approved overtime and weekend work are paid at the applicable rate.

Staff discount applies.

07

Why this role is worth considering

Bull Botanics is still small and owner-run, so we move quickly. We trial new strategies, work with the latest plant-care chemistry, and put new technology to work in an ageing industry.

If plants, retail or business interests you, there is a lot to pick up here.

How to apply

The application is short, and every response is read carefully. Specific, considered answers carry far more weight than a generic cover letter — short answers or dot points are fine, and spelling and polish aren't scored. If your application looks like a fit, we'll call you for a short chat before inviting finalists in for a paid practical shift.
